Anti bag lady.

I have gone through many style phases in my life, but possibly the longest and most cherished was my “natural” stage which occurred towards the end of high school and beginning of college. I was obsessed with hemp jewelry accented with wood and stones, maxi skirts, and all shades of green and brown.

Now that the weather is warming up a little, my fashion aesthetic is taking a turn in the bohemian direction. I feel that this style lends itself best to spring and summer because less layering is required. Any time I’ve attempted to go full out hippie chick in the winter, I just end up feeling like a bag lady.

Moral of the story: get ready for some changes here on SWR. Summer lovin’ Kayley is emerging. However, you know me, I am sensitive to anything that appears too over-done, so today’s look is the perfect representation of my preferred polished and boho combination.

A wash.

It’s no secret that I am a major fan of neutrals. Actually, I might say the word “fan” is mild … I’m more of a neutral groupie, if you will. Those of you who have been following this blog for any period of time have probably picked up on this fact. If you are one of the few who actually reads the text rather than scrolling immediately to the pictures, you may recall that I’ve discussed this before. However, I don’t think I’ve ever dressed as neutrally as I have been lately. Something about this dismal, delayed spring has affected the clothing I’ve chosen to wear. My outfits are a reflection of the weather.

Flat. Muted. Subdued.

Don’t you worry, my friends. As soon as the sun starts shining, I’ll re-introduce more saturated hues. Pelase consider this nothing but a phase.

In this outfit, I went with cream on cream, accented by a splash of beige and gold. I know this may seem boring, but let me say that wearing the same color on top and bottom actually is a feat. This can also be achieved with bold tones, but I think it’s most successful with neutrals. It’s simple, unexpected, and streamlined.
