This past weekend I was honored to be included in an overnight event courtesy of Maurice’s. Even though Mary, our host, had never been to Michigan before, she still managed to select some of my favorite spots around the city for us to visit.
The evening began with a dinner at an amazing local restaurant called Grove. We then spent the night in an adorable bed and breakfast, Leonard on Logan. The house is coming up on it’s 100 year birthday and is packed with charm and character, but beautifully updated. The room my friend, Lindsay, and I stayed in had an enormous shower and heated tile floors in the bathroom. We felt so spoiled!
The following day we attended a “Gifts in a Jar” cooking/canning class at the Downtown Market where we made a delicious strawberry spread and apple chutney. Afterwards, we headed out to Robinette’s Apple Haus and Winery for wine tasting and lunch. I had such a blast getting to know the other girls that attended, as well as our hosts. Thank you so much for the wonderful weekend, Maurice’s!
Here are some photos of my personal highlight from this event: the meal at Grove. We each had four courses and after much deliberation, I chose the báhn mi, harvest ravoili, mushroom gnocchi, and split a couple desserts with Lindsay. Needless to say, I was rocketed into taste bud heaven and feel like I still haven’t come down. Meals like this always inspire me to try new foods, whether it be at home or at a restaurant. If you are ever in Grand Rapids I would strongly recommend visiting Grove for dinner … as if the following photos wouldn’t be enough to convince you.
If you had 24 hours to show someone around your city, what places would you choose? I hope that you take the time to visit those spots sometime this season and appreciate all the things that you love about where you live!
