Sometimes a single piece can completely carry an outfit. In this case, this black and cream striped skirt from Tailor and Stylist was all I needed to make a statement. I went really simple with the styling and matched it with a black tank and black flats. Simple as that!

If you’re new to reading Sidewalk Ready, you may have missed the post where I shared the simple way that I added some special details to these plain flats. I started with a pair of black loafers and just added small gold bows that I discovered at JoAnn Fabrics. They are classic, comfortable, and a little special – just how ladies shoes ought to be. Something about this dress makes me feel like a child again. It’s perfectly swingy and I really can’t resist the desire to spin around at least once while wearing it. The boho feeling paired perfectly with this crocheted vest that I snatched up at an antique fair last year for a whopping $4.

I’ve never been a huge vest person, but I’m starting to see the benefits of owning one or two, just for adding interest to an otherwise simple outfit. In conclusion, I’m going to start keeping my eye out for vests that don’t totally scream 1991. No offense, Kelly Kapowski, no offense.

This look is one that I put together for a day off. I love this breezy blouse from Questhaven Fashions, and was seeking a way to add a little dimension to the outfit by mixing in some preppy elements. After raiding my sister’s dresser, I found these shorts and thought they were the perfect touch. An outfit with both bohemian and classic pieces is normally right up my alley.

I would also like to mention that I haven’t worn khaki in the longest time! I feel like khaki pants and shorts definitely had their heyday but that doesn’t mean they need to be written off. Try sporting them in modern shapes, such as a trouser short, or a slim cropped pant.

This look is a combination of a few things I’ve been loving lately: buttoned up blouses, bib necklaces, and camo green. Even with the warmer temperatures, it’s still possible to put together different combinations to make for an interesting outfit. Don’t get me wrong, I love simple dresses and wear them often, but I think it’s important to have mix and match pieces during the warmer months as well. I will acknowledge that there are scorcher days where nothing but the breeziest dress will do, but you can always add some jewelry. Don’t let the heat drag you down!

This look is one that I put together to really reflect my mood. Simple, demure, peaceful. I pulled together some girly pieces in pastel colors that I could stay cool in. It was the most perfect sunny day, and I spent the majority of it exploring downtown seeing things in a new way with one of my great friends, Kyle. She brought along her camera and we had a beautiful afternoon of picture taking and conversation. Then we ended the day by sitting on an outdoor patio drinking champagne with a couple other friends. It’s these days in life that are worth holding on to. My favorites tend to be full of sunshine, companionship, and laughter.

When styling the dress, my initial inclination was to wear my Banana Republic wedges again. But for the sake of not being repetitive, I gave these ankle boots a shot and really loved the outcome. This is the perfect time of year to play around with warm weather and cool weather pieces. It shows that I’m embracing the weather, but not diving in head first. It’s transition time!

I would also like to mention that it was close to 80 degrees when these photos were taken. My goosebumps are misleading. Am I the only one that breaks out in shivers at the slightest breeze? C’mon skin – You’re so dramatic.

There are a few items that I’ve had hanging in my closet just begging to be worn. This dress from Tailor and Stylist is one of those items. I really, really, really love this dress and have been impatiently waiting for an appropriate time to wear it. Some might argue that since we haven’t hit Memorial Day yet that it’s still technically not appropriate, but I am choosing to ignore those people. I wore white shoes the other day, too. So take that Memorial Day fashion rule followers. I do what I want!

Guess what, guys? It feels like summer! This wonderful weather has been really on and off lately but I am making a point to take outfit photos on the days that the weather is nice. This spring has taken forever to get here, and I hereby refuse to give winter weather any more features on Sidewalk Ready until this fall. It is beyond time for it to go, and I’ve decided that ignoring the cold temperatures all together is my best defense mechanism at this point. There is a chance I might end up eating these words, but for now, that’s the plan.

This top from Daisy Rae Boutique is the perfect mix of styles for me. The bohemian pattern mixed with the classic silhouette is right up my alley, and I think it encompasses my style perfectly. I kept it simple with some streamlined black pants, but I am looking forward to wearing this top with a flared or pencil skirt next time … and you know what that means – bare legs. Dreamin’ big over here, folks. Dreamin’ big.
