The details.

When selecting items to add to my wardrobe, the most important thing to me are the details. I love unique colors, stitching, shapes, the list goes on and on. Lately I have been trying to select my clothing and accessories very intentionally by choosing things that seem special to me. I’m hoping one day to have a closet full of items with very specific reasons as to why I chose each one.

Today’s blouse was purchased a couple of days ago at LOFT (Family and Friends 40% off!). I love the color and the semi-sheerness. It’s thick enough that the nude bra I wore underneath didn’t show through, but thin enough that it’s light-weight and breezy. Because the color was bold enough on it’s own, I chose a really simple pairing – jeans and some of my favorite jewelry pieces.

Outfit Breakdown:
Blouse: LOFT (Same. Save. Spend. Splurge.)

Necklace: c/o Shoppalu (Save. Spend. Splurge.)

Purse: ESprit (Save. Spend. Splurge.)

Hair:
Redken Powder Play at roots, pinned half up, messy bun at nape of neck.

You’re speaking to me, chica! I’ve recently realized I’m in a wardrobe rut and the biggest thing I’m missing are items with pretty details that make them unique and interesting to look at. Totally agree with you–buy items for their special “thing” and you will love it always. It’ll create a timeless wardrobe rather than fad-y.

I love the blouse and shoes. such a simple casual look with the perfect punch of color!

  6. I totally know what you mean about wanting your clothes to be meaningful! There was some other blogger posting about boycotting the mall, on a similar principle. Being intentional in why you dress the way you dress is a great creed of fashion bloggers, and I think it extends all the way to being intention in why you buy the clothes you buy.

Also, love this look! The coral looks so great with your blonde locks.

  7. I really like that attitude towards shopping, and I’ve recently tried to not buy anything, unless there is something about it that I absolutely love/cannot live without. I’ve done a lot of “mindless” shopping in the past. That color is so pretty on you, and the messy bun is fabulous.

Beautiful blog! Your pictures are incredible, and I love your classic sense of style. And you styled this coral blouse perfectly.

I definitely used to buy things on a whim and end up with pieces that sat in my closet with the tags on for ages. I’m learning it really is so much better to only buy things you love and that work with your closet. Thanks for the inspiring words! It’s always good to be reminded (so I don’t end up with five more striped tees haha).

Hi, just found your blog through the WhatIWore stripes challenge. I simply adored the twist updo tutorial(I’m actually sporting the look as I type). I don’t know if you’ve seen these before, but they’re beyond great for updos. They’re the Goody Twist Pins:

I have really thick long hair, and I was always having to redo my updos at least two times a day because my pins were constantly sifting or falling out of place. These twist pins never, never fall out and are really secure all day long. I have to tell every girl with long hair about them they’re just beyond awesome.
