The following is what I wore to lunch. I originally intended to wear it all day, until I realized how short
this dress is. NOT work appropriate. I will admit that SWR is certainly not the most helpful when it
comes to professional work wear considering I work at a salon and not only is office wear not required,
it also wouldn’t really be appropriate for the kind of work that I do in terms of fashion and in practicality.
I also run the risk of ruining whatever I wear to work and a well tailored suit would be too much of a loss
if I splattered color on it.
That being said, I feel like I do a pretty good job of wearing clothes that are appropriate for work in
terms of modesty. This dress didn’t pass that test. So after lunch, I swapped out the metallic dress for black
dress, ditched the sweater (I’d be too hot), added a tie (that I tucked down into the dress), and put on
black tights instead. Much better for work. And Kai said he liked that outfit better. But we didn’t get
pictures. So you get to see the ugly stepsister outfit from yesterday instead. Even though I still like
this one, too.

Yes, this dress is from GapKids. I saw it a couple of years ago and thought it would be the perfect New
Years Dress. I get compliments on it every single time I wear it so I figure who caaaares if it’s from the
kids store, really. I also wore this on Christmas Day last year with possibly one of my favorite hairstyles
I’ve featured on the blog … you can check that post out here.

Super cute pairing! I love the colors together. But agreed, too short for work
. SO jealous you can fit into GapKids!

Beautiful!! I love the look of your dress layered with the pretty denim blouse and that cardy is seriously stunning! Oooh and that other outfit sounds so fab too. xo V
I love how you totally changed the look of the dress from last year’s post to today’s! Awesome!
This dress is gorgeous on you. I love the combo. I banned myself from shopping in the kids section a couple years ago when I decided I was a ‘real adult’ but maybe I should let a few things slide after all…
I appreciate your honesty and showing an outfit that just didn’t quite work. That’s refreshing in the blogging world of personal style!
I’m not gonna lie…I have a Gap Kid’s hoodie that I’ve had for YEARS that I still wear.
No judgements here
I love your glasses!
I agree, that dress is super cute and you look awesome in it. I do hope to see the other combination on the blog at some point as it sounds just as awesome and I am always in for some work appropriate pairings!
after reading the last few posts, i realized i’ve been following your blog (more or less religiously, how about that?) for more than a year! yay! and my very first comment (about how i liked your blog because you’re sweet and not all eyeliner-ed and something-about-calling-your-parents) still applies.
so, a happy new year to you, kayley! and thanks. i will keep reading your blog and stealing outfit ideas. (and i will try to keep the hair envy at a minimum)
except this is the best, regardless of the shortness of the dress.
i love all the layering and the inspiration!!
thanks, kristen!
