Mixed Greens.

Thanks for all of the great feedback on my last post featuring the video tour through our home and
also details of the house warming open house we hosted. We are feeling really positive about all of the
changes we’ve made and are glad to hear you feel the same!

Today I’m back with the usual, an outfit post. I mixed a couple shades of greens that I normally would
never pair together and was pleasantly surprised by the outcome. Sometimes an accessory can pull a
whole look together. In this case, it was my scarf.

Outfit Breakdown:
Maxi Dress: BCBG via T.J.Maxx / Sweater: Gap / Scarf: Target / Belt: Thrifted

Hair:
Air dried, select pieces wrapped around large curling iron, redken powder grip at roots

I did a tutorial on how to do this braided scarf look – check it out here. And for a full view of this
dress worn as a skirt, view this post.

Yesterday, Kai and I joined a gym. Today we went and worked out. I’m about to be sore. Any suggestions
on getting into a work out routine? So far the most exciting part was buying a new pair of running shoes
(I love them).

Clever title. That’s always the trickiest part.

Oh gosh. I am going crazy over the green combo. And that sweater?! LOVE.
As far as fitness goes, I say find something you like (for me that means not boring) and stick to working out at the same time everyday. It’s so much easier to encorporate it back into your life if it’s just a normal part of everyday or – better yet – something you really enjoy…I mean as much as someone can like getting back in shape. :) Good luck!

Kayls, you are just gorgeous. :)

Work out tips (coming from a woman who’s generally enjoyed working out for over 10 years now, but had her fair share of episodes of falling out of routine and having to restart the course):

    1. Take it easy in the beginning. If you haven’t been running 5Ks regularly, don’t expect to be able to run 3 miles your first time out. Be happy with a cardio work out that consists of say 5 minutes of walking followed by 5 minutes of jogging followed by another 5 minutes of walking. Maybe next time try for 7 minutes of jogging in the middle. Start low and go slow! :)

    2. Slow…and steady. Try to do a little bit every day. If you can’t physically get to the gym, be ok with doing 8 Minute Abs at home. (Search for it! It’s there on YouTube!)

    3. Don’t waste your time taking classes or doing exercises you don’t enjoy. It will be easier to stick with it if you like doing it. There are so many options out there for how to exercise. Try new things to discover what you like!

    4. If you like keeping track of things, set up a schedule in a notebook or on your computer and track your progress. If that’s not your thing, forget this suggestion. :)

    5. Try not to compare yourself to the other people around you. If you’re going bother with comparisons, just look to previous versions of yourself.

    6. Push yourself, but within reason. Don’t feel like you have to nail every move in a group exercise class. Take the low option if you feel like it. This kind of goes along with #3.

    7. If you’re going to be lifting weights, and if you don’t know how to already, learn how to lift weights with good form. That will help you avoid injury, help focus the exercise on the proper muscle(s), and help you just flat out look hotter when you’re lifting. And I totally recommend trying to find a way to enjoy weight lifting. Definitely helps with shaping and will never make you look bulky unless that’s the look you’re going for. (Learn about sets and repititions (reps) and how many of each will help you meet your personal goals.)

    8. Have fun!

My husband and I joined a gym recently as well. I actually look forward to going more knowing that he is going with me. It is nice to have someone to help motivate you. My next suggestion? Take classes. It is nearly impossible for me to slack off when I’m in a class surrounded by other people and a ton of mirrors. And, new running shoes never hurt :) Mine are bright purple and they definitely make it easier to hit the gym.

The scarf does totally make that colour combo work…and that dress looks so lovely to wear!

I LOVE this outfit! Both the pattern and the color mixing work so well!

I think cute workout clothes and sneakers are very motivating! ;-) Maybe you could do a post on your workout gear. Another thing that might help is the app the GymPact ( http://www.gym-pact.com/). Check it out if you have an iphone.

I would if my workout gear was cute! I don’t have the money to spend on cute workout clothes. Everyday clothes are definitely my priority. :)

  8. Megan says:

I swear by the Nike Training Club app. It has workouts for every experience level and little videos of what exactly the exercises are in case you don’t recognize them. I love it!

  9. Kelly says:

My new nikes helped me go to the gym, just because I wanted to wear them! When I first started going to the gym it helped to look ahead and find when something I was interested in watching was going to be on tv…otherwise I just found cardio very boring. And check out the workout clothes from Target, I love it and it’s fairly cheap!

  10. Loren says:

Love the color combo here. The belt and scarf are just perfect for each other. I’m a ‘rarely if ever’ exerciser. But I would suggest finding something you enjoy. Working out is way easier when you don’t hate it.

I love how you mix patterns and colours! This outfit is gorgeous and you are so, so pretty.

Yay for you guys on joining a gym! I joined a gym with my boyfriend five months ago and probably the most helpful thing for me was learning how all the (scary looking/confusing!) equipment worked and what would be best for me. That and a kick-ass new pair of grey + hot pink Nike’s. ;) I hope you’re not too sore today – but it’s a good thing!

  12. kate says:

ohhh love how you tied your scarf. love the mix of patterns/colors.
The lunarglides are a great shoe! Good luck with your workout routine. I usually find it takes about 2 weeks of working out continaully before it starts to feel like a habit. And signing up for a race or an end goal is another way to get motivated as well!
